Optional extra credit: Answer the following question with a 200-300 word essay
on your blog.
What
do you want most in a friend: someone who is intelligent, someone who has a
sense of humor, or someone who is reliable? Which one of these characteristics
is most important to you? Use reasons and specific examples to explain your
choice.
Intelligence
and a sense of humor are important things in making friends but I think that reliability
is the most important characteristic to me because I believe that relationship
is built on reliability.
When I
was in a high school, back then I had different type of friends. One of them
was a really funny man. He was like a comedian to us. When we hang out together,
we laughed all the time. We never got bored. However, he was not faithful and does
not know what a friendship is. When I needed support from him as a friend
because of some serious problems, he ran away, though he was responsible for
it.
A friendship
does not just mean enjoyment. A true friendship, being involved in a
relationship with someone, means taking responsibility for your friend. The
responsibility in a relationship basically means reliability which includes
honesty, sincerity, faith, support and encouragement. If it is a true friendship,
you can share personal stuff, and to do so, it requires fundamental trust that
he would stand on your side no matter what happens. In this sense, I believe
that reliability is more important than intelligence and sense of humor in
making friends.
